Counter-Protest to Support Councilwoman Ajmera

  • Charlotte Mecklenburg County Government Building 600 East 4th Street Charlotte, NC, 28202 United States (map)

A group of reasonable, concerned citizens will gather at Monday’s Charlotte City Council meeting to show support for Councilwoman Ajmera after her recent comment on WCNC’s Flashpoint that politicians who support Trump should be voted out. Republican groups are planning a sit-in at the meeting, claiming that she is calling for a “ government ban of GOP & Trump Supporters”. Ajmera’s campaign has stated that “if the 2017 City Council race is a referendum on Trump’s values, then we accept that challenge.”

“We were shocked by the onslaught of racist comments on the WCNC facebook page. We reject Trump’s bigoted agendas that have inspired an increase in racism in politics and America in general,” said Carolyn Eberly, on the leadership board of Indivisible NC District 9. “Councilwoman Ajmera was not calling for politicians who support Trump to be banned from office but rather that the voters should vote them out as part of the democratic process. That is how our government works.”

Those who support reasonable political discourse and freedom of speech should meet at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center at 600 East Fourth Street Charlotte NC 28202 at 5:15 on Monday, July 24 and should note that the meeting does begin at 6:30 and can last several hours. More info is available at Indivisible NC District 9’s facebook page.
